What counts is that the dog is individually trained to do work or perform tasks for a person with a disability.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eStaff in a public place may ask only two questions: whether the dog is a service animal required because of a disability, and what work or task it has been trained to perform.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eEmotional support animals do not qualify as service animals under the ADA.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eUnder U.S. Department of Transportation rules in effect since 2021, airlines no longer have to treat emotional support animals as service animals.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003cli\u003eSome states have their own laws about passing a pet off as a service dog. Check the rules where you live.\u003c\/li\u003e\n\u003c\/ul\u003e\n\u003ch3\u003eGetting the size right\u003c\/h3\u003e\u003cp\u003eMeasure around your dog's neck and around the chest just behind the front legs with a soft tape, then pick the size where both numbers fall inside the chart. The manufacturer suggests adding 2 to 3 cm (about 1 in) for comfort and notes that hand measurements can be off by 0.5 to 2 cm. Go by the measurements, not by your dog's weight. After the first walk, re-check the straps: you should fit two fingers underneath.
