Every walk has a point where your dog is done and you are not. The puppy who ran too hard, the dachshund who should not be doing three more miles, the fourteen-year-old who still wants to come but cannot finish. The Knavigate is for that point: a forward-facing backpack carrier with an internal frame and a hip belt, so your dog rides and you keep going.

Every part of it, labelled
K9 Sport Sack builds the Knavigate from the features across the rest of their range, so there is more going on here than a bag with leg holes. This is the maker’s own diagram.

Why the frame and the hip belt matter
A dog carried in a soft bag hangs off your shoulders, and twenty minutes in you feel it in your neck. The Knavigate has an internal frame and a padded back panel that hold the pack’s shape, and a lap belt that moves the weight down onto your hips the way a hiking pack does. The sternum strap stops the shoulder straps spreading. That combination is the difference between carrying your dog to the car and carrying your dog all afternoon.

Who carries one
Hikers whose dog runs out of trail first. Small dogs and short-legged breeds cover the same ground at three times the effort. Carry them for the hard mile and let them walk the easy one.

Short-legged and flat-faced breeds. Dachshunds, corgis, French bulldogs and pugs all have good reasons to stop early. Forward-facing means they can see where you are both going, and the mesh panels keep air moving.

Older dogs and dogs on the mend. A dog recovering from surgery, or one whose back legs have started to go, can still come along. Ask your vet first if your dog is under treatment.
Crowds, transit and travel. Stations, escalators, markets and festival crowds are easier when your dog is off the floor and your hands are free. The hip pockets hold a phone and a leash where you can reach them without taking the pack off.

Getting the size right
This carrier is sized by your dog’s length, not their weight. Measure along the spine from the collar to the base of the tail, not to the tip. Then read the size off the size chart on this page. The Knavigate is built for dogs up to 50 lb. If your dog is near the top of a size range, or falls between two sizes, choose the larger one.

Before the first long trip
- Let your dog get in and out of the pack at home before you go anywhere in it.
- Load it, clip the lap belt, then adjust the shoulder straps so the weight sits on your hips.
- Check the straps, buckles, zippers and the carabiner clip before every use.
- Stop regularly so your dog can get out, stretch, drink and walk.
- Wipe the fabric with a damp cloth and let it air dry. Store it somewhere dry.

-
Step 2: Load and clip in: Have your dog step in with their legs through the leg openings, close the collar enclosure, attach the carabiner safety clip and snug the angled cinch straps.

Step 3: Set the pack on your hips: Fasten the padded lap belt first and let it take the weight, then tighten the shoulder straps and clip the sternum strap.
Worth knowing

- Introduce the carrier at home before the first trip out, and stop regularly so your dog can stretch, drink and walk.
Product care and maintenance
-
Spot cleaning: Wipe the fabric surface with a damp cloth to clean off dust and dirt. Avoid using harsh chemical cleaners and allow the backpack to air dry completely.
-
Pre-trip inspection: Inspect the straps, buckles, zippers, and internal frame before every use. Ensure all closures are fully functional and secure before placing your dog inside.
-
Proper storage: Store the carrier in a dry, cool place when it is not in use. Avoid keeping it in damp environments to maintain the integrity of the fabric and frame.
